I am Maciek Swiatkowski, designer and creator at AIF Atelier and Kofski.

I was born in Warsaw, at a time when the shelves at the markets were quite empty. The policies of the regime at the time meant that ordinary people had to be very creative with the materials they did have access to in order to solve functional problems in the day to day life.

When I was in my early teens, we relocated to the Netherlands. Here, I was able to further develop the fascination I had already cultivated with creating functional objects from lighting to furniture. After a brief stint as a pro snowboarder, I realised that spending my time only in the mountains on my snowboard was not enough for me and decided to finish my studies.

From 1999 to 2005, I was enrolled at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten te Den Haag, where I explored the fine line between design and art. I finished this exploration with a diploma in Architectonic and Furniture Design. In 2005, I was professionally certified with the BNI as an interior architect, and have been developing my skills as craftsman and maker ever since.

Below, you can find an article about my work in the Algemene Dagblad:
